Tips and Tricks for Better Bookmarking


Reports vary, but according to a podcasting news site, people spend approximately 33 hours each week on the internet. All of that time online, and you are bound to stumble across a dozen or so webpages that you want to save for later. Bookmarking, which has nothing to do with books and everything to do with the internet, has made that possible. Over the years it has become easier, more intuitive, and in some cases a social activity.

If you find yourself having a hard time sorting through all of your online bookmarks, here are some bookmarking tips and tricks.

  • Do not bookmark Google applications.
  • Did you know that you do not need to bookmark Google applications like Gmail, and Drive? If you use the Chrome web browser, you can set your homepage to show all of your applications. This is where you will see shortcuts to Gmail, Google Search, Drive, and any other Google applications you frequent. Setting your homepage to the applications will let you save save your Google bookmarks toolbar for the blogs and websites.

  • Use the Google bookmarks manager.
  • If the toolbar does not give you enough structure to manage bookmarks, simply use the online bookmark manager created by Google. All you need to do is make sure that you bookmark the Google bookmarks page. Then, all you need to do is bookmark sites by either using the bookmark-let, clicking on the star icons next to web addresses, or use the tools embedded in the Google bookmarks page.

  • Be organized.
  • If you choose to use your toolbar for all of your bookmarks, and not a bookmark manager, then spend some time creating a logical system of folders. If you do not organize bookmarks, you will find that throwing all of your favorite sites into just one folder will result in not being able to find what you need, when you need it.

The internet is a big place, and if you spend any amount of time on it for work or for pleasure you are bound to find some places that you want to revisit. Use these bookmarking tips and tricks and you will find that you will have plenty of bookmarking space, and better organization.
